RESIDENTS of the nationalist lower Ormeau Road area of Belfast lost their legal battle to have today's Orange march through their district banned or rerouted.

In the North's High Court last night, Mr Justice Girvan dismissed an application for a judicial review.constituted unlawful discrimination.

In affidavits, the residents claimed they were being discriminated against on the grounds of religious belief and political opinion, and claimed that the march could lead to public disorder if it went ahead.

Mr Justice Girvan said there was no evidence before him that the Secretary of State had not been considering the case for and against the march.

He said. In the highly charged situation currently prevailing in Northern Ireland, it is inevitable that whatever decision is reached by the RUC or Secretary of State in any given case will attract criticism from one side of the community or the other."
