Mr David Capper, a veteran BBC journalist, has said that he cannot understand the controversy over his sound recording of events on Bloody Sunday and has expressed the belief that shots heard on his tape were fired by the British army.

"If anybody says that my tape-recording indicates that shots were initially fired at the soldiers, I would find that difficult to believe, because that was not what I was recording", Mr Capper told BBC Radio Ulster.
