A Dublin journalist, Mr Brendan Burke (45), of Leixlip, Co Kildare, died after being hit by a car on the Lucan bypass, near the Spa Hotel on Sunday night.

Mr Burke started his career in journalism on the Leinster Leader. He moved to the Irish Press in 1971 and was later appointed chief reporter on the Evening Press. He joined the Daily News in 1982 and following its closure joined the Ireland International newsagency.

He is survived by his wife, Nonie, and four children.
