Dublin’s five-star Shelbourne Hotel is the latest employer to announce job losses, confirming it has made staff redundancies across a broad section of the hotel.

A spokeswoman for the hotel said there would be jobs losses at middle management, supervisory and associate level positions.

"It's devastating for anyone to lose a job, and it is regrettable this is happening but we have no choice but to do so," she added.

The spokeswoman would not confirm the number of redundancies but a staff member at the hotel said it was "approximately twenty five".

In November 2008, the hotel made seven staff redundant, mainly in supervisory and associate level positions.

The hotel is managed by the Marriott Hotel Group.
