JFK airport re-opens after evacuation

A busy terminal in New York's John F

A busy terminal in New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport was re-opened this afternoon, after a partial evacuation was prompted after an unattended bag was found.

The area around the ticketing desks had been cleared of travellers for roughly 90 minutes while authorities investigated the package, according to the spokesman, Ned Raynolds of American Airlines said.

"We took the normal precautions and notified authorities," Mr Raynolds said.

Travelers who had already passed through security were not evacuated due their distance from the package, Mr Raynolds said.

The incident came at a time when the terminal was crowded with business travellers.
