A Limerick man who drove a car at the front door of a nightclub in Newcastle West after being refused admission on St Patrick's night has been jailed for three months.

Paul Mullins (31), of Ministerland, Ardagh, who was home on holidays from the US, was also disqualified from driving for two years.

Judge Mary O'Halloran at Charleville District Court fined Mullins £300 and bound him to the peace.

The court heard that Mullins, who runs his own business in the US, paid £2,309 in compensation for the nightclub damage. He appealed the verdict.
