Where the Queen will go today

MORNING

National Stud: the third day of the Queen’s itinerary will begin with a trip to the National Stud and adjoining Japanese Gardens in Co Kildare. As an ardent racing fan who has owned many champion horses, the Queen is expected to enjoy a tour of the stud and its prized stallions.

As part of the visit, she will meet representatives of the stud and trainers of the Irish-trained winners at this year’s Cheltenham festival. The Queen will also unveil a sculpture by artist Anthony Scott at the venue.

Minister for Health James Reilly and Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney will be in attendance.

Afterwards, the Queen is due to make a private visit to Gilltown Stud near Kilcullen, Co Kildare, which is owned by the Aga Khan.

AFTERNOON

Convention Centre: the Queen will attend an indoor garden party at the Convention Centre in Dublin’s Docklands, hosted by the British embassy. The event, organised with the assistance of developer Harry Crosbie, will feature acts including Westlife, The Chieftains, the National Symphony Orchestra, X Factor star Mary Byrne and former Eurovision winner Eimear Quinn. A performance by Riverdance, readings from Irish literature and a fashion show with designs by John Rocha, Louise Kennedy and MS will also feature.

The event will be attended by President Mary McAleese and her husband Martin, with some 2,000 invited guests from across Ireland involved in the business, sporting, entertainment, politics and charity sectors.
