Israeli forces shot dead a wanted Palestinian militant and arrested several others in the West Bank city of Jenin today, local witnesses and military sources said.
The witnesses said an Israeli undercover unit entered the city early in the morning, cornered a number of militants in a restaurant and shot dead 25-year-old Islamic Jihad member Majed al-Saadi.
Israeli military sources said forces on an arrest raid in the city shot and killed a wanted Palestinian militant when he tried to evade arrest.
Israel has arrested hundreds of suspects and tracked and killed dozens it says are behind suicide bombings and attacks in more than three years of conflict.
Jenin, in the northern part of the West Bank, has been a stronghold of militancy.
