Israel resumed fuel shipments to Gaza's main power station today, a senior generating plant official said.

The power station shut down on Saturday, leaving about half of the Hamas-controlled territory's population of 1.5 million without electricity.

An Israeli official said there had been no fuel deliveries due to Israel's independence day celebrations last week and repeated mortar attacks by Palestinian militants on the supply point.

"We have received three trucks of industrial diesel for the power station so far," the plant official said.

He said he expected today's deliveries would be enough to run the facility for about three days
