Israel, Palestinians to meet

Washington - Israel and the Palestinians have agreed to hold a meeting in response to an appeal by the US Secretary of State, Ms Madeleine Albright, for direct talks, a State Department spokesman said yesterday. The meeting between officials will take place after the Palestinian leader, Mr Yasser Arafat, returns from his trip to China on Wednesday but no firm date has been set, the spokesman, said.
