Islanders vote on secession

Mutsamudu - Anjouan islanders yesterday appeared to have voted overwhelmingly for independence from the Comoros in a referendum recognised only by the secessionists themselves. Tens of thousands of people turned out to cast their ballots, turning the occasion into a gigantic party to which the whole island had been invited. - (Reuters)
