Five Achill islanders charged almost two years ago with offences arising from protests over the erection of an Esat Digifone mast are due to appear before a special sitting of Achill District Court today. Last year the garda at the centre of a row about the erection of a mobile phone mast on Achill island was exonerated by his superiors. Garda Peadar Howley won his appeal against a disciplinary ruling at a special hearing in Dublin.
