An Irish cavalryman's Victoria Cross won for four separate acts of bravery during the year long "Indian Mutiny" in the 19th century, was sold for £36,000 sterling to anonymous buyer at a London auction yesterday.
During the 1857 uprising, Sir Charles Gough, from, Rathronan House, Clonmel, Co Tipperary, saved the life of his brother and another officer as well as killing several enemy lenders "in a gallant manner".
The Gough family was unique because three of its members were awarded VCs.
