The Irish author Deirdre Madden has been shortlisted for the £30,000 all-women Orange literary prize

The Irish author Deirdre Madden has been shortlisted for the £30,000 all-women Orange literary prize. She is one of six writers on the shortlist, which includes American author E Annie Proulx, whose novel The Shipping News won The Irish Tines International Fiction Prize in 1993.

The shortlist includes: Deirdre Madden for One By One In The Darkness; Jane Mendelsohn (US) for I Was Amelia Earhart.

The prize, established after an anonymous donation, is supported by the mobile telephone company, Orange.
