A 22-year-old Irish woman survived a dramatic 40-metre cliff fall at Ginninderra Falls, approximately 30 kilometres from Canberra, on Saturday.

It is thought the woman was walking along the edge of the cliff when she lost her footing on a slippery rock, plummeting 40 metres. People who were with the woman supported her in chest-deep water in case she had spinal injuries.

Paramedics aboard a rescue helicopter winched her aboard the helicopter for the short flight to Canberra Hospital's emergency department.

The woman is still in the hospital, where her condition is described as satisfactory.
