Police in Melbourne, Australia have recovered a body from a river in the search for a missing Irish tourist.

Police in Melbourne, Australia have recovered a body from a river in the search for a missing Irish tourist.

The body of a man was located by police divers in the Yarra River today at about 1.30pm Irish time (12.30am in Melbourne).

Victoria Police were searching for the body of a man thought to have jumped off the river bank in central Melbourne near Federation Square shortly after 9pm.

The body was located in about 2 metres of water near the Princes Bridge.

The Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed that an Irish person was missing but a spokesman said that no formal identification had taken place.
