The Irish Times Internet edition on the Web won the inaugural top commercial website award, sponsored by AIB, at last night's Golden Spider Internet Awards ceremony in Dublin.

The award was presented by Mr Donal P. Murphy, of the electronic banking section of AIB, to Mr Seamus Conaty, managing director of Itronics Ltd, and Mr Seamus Martin, editor of the electronic editions of The Irish Times.

The top non-commercial website award was won by the architectural site of Mr Paul Clerkin, Archeire. Other winners were: best personal site: Mr Seaghan Moriarty; young persons award: Mr Brian Quigley. The magazine .IE readers award went to Virtual Irish Pub - Visunet.

Most innovative site: Labyrinth for 2FM. Most artistic site: M Colm Greene; special communications award: Mr Barney Whelan for the ESB; web design agency of the year: Adnet; PostGEM award: RTE.
