Two students have come first in the world in their respective accountancy exams.
Cian McComb, a native of Galway who is now living and working in Luxembourg, and Jitka Pechancova originally from the Czech Republic but now living in Limerick, came first in the world in the their respective Association of Chartered and Certified Accountants (ACCA) exams.
Cian, a distance learning student had the highest mark out of a cohort of 23,316 students worldwide who took the Paper P1 - Governance, Risk and Ethics exam.
Meanwhile Jitka a student of Griffith College, Limerick, came first in a field of 2,594 students worldwide who sat a Foundations in Financial Management paper.
"For any student coming first in the world is a massive achievement," Liz Hughes, Head of ACCA Ireland.
"Having two students from Ireland coming first in the world in their respective exams, is exceptional, and testament to the hard work put in by both Cian and Jitka. It highlights the high standard of teaching, the quality of courses, and calibre of student we have here in Ireland."
