THE KING Puck may have its local folklore but the Irish nanny goat is developing an international legend all of its own – that of a life-saver, writes Kathryn Hayes.
Irish aid organisation Bóthar has over the last two decades airlifted goats to feed over 7,000 families across the globe and its Christmas appeal, launched yesterday, will see that rise by hundreds more. The appeal aims to deliver various Irish livestock and other animals to 3,000 families.
The Irish goat is one of the most popular.
“Our goats can give up to six litres of milk per day, enough milk for a family of six. The milk doesn’t require homogenisation either,” said Bóthar chief executive David Moloney.
