A Co Galway student has died in hospital following a diving accident in Chicago.
The 22-year-old man from Galway city received serious head and spinal injuries while diving from a pier at North Avenue Beach into shallow waters in Lake Michigan in the early hours of Thursday morning.
He died at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago yesterday evening.
It is understood the man was in the US on a J1 visa and working for the summer at a hotel in Chicago.
Meanwhile, a 37-year-old Letterkenny man died this morning when his motorbike crashed in Greece, where he was on holidays.
