An Irish couple have been remanded in custody in connection with the murder of a man on Tenerife over the weekend.

An Irish couple have been remanded in custody in connection with the murder of a man on Tenerife over the weekend.

According to EFE news agency Keith Burke (19) and Sara Stuart (27) were remanded in custody without bail after appearing in court on the island on Saturday.

A court spokesman said Mr Burke is being formally investigated for murder while Ms Stuart is being investigated for murder and wounding.

Abraham Báez (25) died on Friday morning as a result of head injuries sustained during an altercation outside the Hotel Tropical Playa in the resort of Playa de las Americas.

His girlfriend, who witnessed the incident, was taken to hospital suffering from shock.
