Irish American award for Clinton

President Clinton will accept the 1996 Irish American of the Year award at a special gala event in New York next Monday.

President Clinton will accept the 1996 Irish American of the Year award at a special gala event in New York next Monday.

The award, from Irish America Magazine, will be presented by the US ambassador to Ireland, Ms Jean Kennedy Smith, and is deemed among the most important given in the Irish American community.

Previous winners of the award include Cardinal John O'Connor of New York and the actress Maureen O'Hara.
