Dublin Fire Brigade tonight attended the scene of a fire on Thomas Street, which is on the south side of Dublin city centre near Usher's Quay.

A spokesman described it as a “domestic fire” and four units including three pumps are battling the blaze which has sent a plume of smoke over the River Liffey.

The building is derelict and there is not thought to be anybody inside. However the spokesman said it could be some time before the fire is extinguished.

Dublin City Fire Brigade have sought to increase the water pressure in the area in order to assist the operation.
