Gunmen killed 10 Iraqi guards and kidnapped at least one Malawian engineer in an attack on a convoy in Baghdad today, an Interior Ministry source said.
The source told Reuters the guards had been protecting the engineer, who is employed by Iraqna, part of the Egyptian-owned Orascom Telecom , and had been travelling in three or four cars when the gunmen struck.
A spokesman for Iraqna, Shamil Hanafi, said six guards had been killed in the attack and two seriously wounded.
