Washington - The United States yesterday rejected as unacceptable an Iraqi decision to ban Americans from UN weapons inspection teams in Iraq, and warned that the move had "potentially grave consequences".

Iraq said yesterday it would continue to co-operate with a visiting UN inspection team, at least temporarily, but that the US members must leave by November 6th.

In response, the United Nations suspended all operations in Iraq by UNSCOM, the UN Special Commission in charge of dismantling Iraq's weapons of mass destruction.
