Bonn - An Iranian court has lifted a death sentence imposed on a German who had an affair with a Muslim woman, in a case that revived tensions between Tehran and Bonn, a television station said yesterday. A television station said it had obtained the information from the lawyer for the detained German, Mr Helmut Hofer.

The German foreign ministry said it was not immediately able to confirm the report. Mr Hofer (56) was condemned to death in January in Tehran after having had an affair with the woman.
