THE IRA said in a statement last night that Mr Diarmuid O'Neill, the man shot dead bye British police in London, was one of its volunteers.

Mr O'Neill (27), who was, buried in Co Cork last week, was shot dead by British police during a raid on a house in west London, on September 23rd last.

In its statement, the IRA said: "We have delayed confirmation that Diarmuid was one of our volunteers in respectful consideration of his parents publicly expressed request for privacy at the burial of their son.
