A joint North-South study has concluded that an inter connector would be the most cost-effective means of providing security of gas supply throughout the island, the Northern Ireland Minister of State, Mr Adam Ingram, said yesterday.

In strict economic terms the interconnector could not be justified, the study found, but suggested that broader considerations would justify its use over other possible options.
