AN INVESTIGATION is being carried out by the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) and gardaí into the death of a 31-year-old man on a pig farm, outside Castleisland, Co Kerry.

Father of two Liam O’Connor was collecting a skip from the pig farm, at Fahaduff, about five miles from Castleisland, when he is understood to have become trapped between the hydraulic hoist of the skip and the skip.

Gardaí believe the accident may have occurred when Mr O’Connor, from Mountcollins, Co Limerick, arrived at the premises after everyone had left on Monday night and his body was not found until Tuesday morning.

The HSA yesterday confirmed its inspectors have been to the scene and an investigation is under way. A postmortem examination has been carried out in Kerry General Hospital.
