The Arts Council of Northern Ireland is investigating allegations of attempted fraud in applications for British National Lottery arts funding.

The council has confirmed that an RUC inquiry is also under way. The investigation relates to the prices quoted by suppliers of band instruments. The council's chief executive, Mr Brian Ferran, said last night that the bands applying for funding are not at fault.
