An elderly woman was knocked down and killed by the middle vehicle in a convoy of three jeeps, Dublin City Coroner's Court was told yesterday.

Mrs Elizabeth Burns (78), of Upper Erne Street, Dublin, died at the scene of the accident on Pearse Street last May.

The inquest heard she was struck by the second vehicle in the convoy of FM 104 jeeps travelling from the station's headquarters at Hume House, Ballsbridge, to Santry.

The post-mortem evidence was that Mrs Burns died of severe head injuries.

The jury recorded a verdict of accidental death.
