Residents of Inis Mór have pledged to continue opposing a new ferry levy imposed by Galway County Council on both islanders and tourists.

The levy aims to help pay for running costs of the Aran Island’s €40 million harbour.

A Galway County Council debate on Monday resulted in compromise, and island residents will pay an annual multi-trip levy of €5; visitors will pay 80 cent per trip.
