Jakarta - Shops reopened yesterday in an Indonesian town hit by three straight days of rioting. Police in Kendari, capital of south-east Sulawesi, said the situation was calm after they were forced to fire warning shots on Thursday to disperse people looting dozens of stores.

In Yogyakarta, in Central Java, witnesses said hundreds of students protested on university campuses without any major incident.
