Inchicore youth (19) shot in head dies in hospital

A TEENAGER who was shot in the head in a house in Inchicore, Dublin, yesterday has died.

A man and an accomplice are believed to have been involved in the attack which happened at 2.50pm yesterday at Myra Close, just a couple of hundred metres from his home.

Paul McCarthy (19), Tyrconnell Road, Inchicore, was brought to St James’s Hospital where he died yesterday evening.

Gardaí sealed off the close of terraced houses which is in a dip adjacent to Richmond Park, the home of the soccer team St Patrick’s Athletic.

House-to-house inquiries were still being carried out yesterday evening as the crowd was gathering for the St Patrick’s Athletic-Shamrock Rovers game last night.

Investigating officers interviewed several witnesses at the scene and later recovered what is believed to be the firearm from a house in Emmet Road.

Gardaí last night conducted a case conference at Kilmainham Garda station and are expected to announce more details this morning.

They are appealing to anyone who was in the Myra Close/ Emmet Road area of Inchicore yesterday afternoon to contact the incident room at Kilmainham Garda station on 01-666 9700, the Garda Confidential Line on 1-800-666-111 or any Garda station.
