IT WAS a remembrance of times past at the VHI 40th anniversary gala dinner in the Royal Hospital Kilmainham on Wednesday night, with former Ministers for Health Dr Rory O'Hanlon (father of Father Ted star Ardal) and Tom O'Higgins, who held the post when the VHI was founded, both in attendance, as was Jim Troy, the first chairman of the organisation. Those now battling BUPA were also in evidence, with current chairman Noel Hanlon and acting chief executive Aidan. Walsh present, while other guests included Judge Catherine McGuinness and Senator Cathy Honan. Phrase of the evening was perhaps "Don't Mention The Nurses" - guest of honour was the Minister for Health, Michael Noonan.
