Princely sale price for Middleton dress

LONDON – The see-through dress that apparently sparked Prince William’s interest in Kate Middleton sold last night for £78,000.

The knitted gown, worn by Ms Middleton at a University of St Andrews fashion show attended by the prince in 2002, was auctioned in a packed central London sales room. – (PA)

Actor fingerprinted after battery ruling

LOS ANGELES – Actor Mel Gibson visited a Los Angeles police station late on Wednesday night to be fingerprinted and photographed. Gibson (55) was sentenced last Friday to three years’ probation, one year of counselling and other punishments after pleading no contest, which is the legal equivalent of guilty in California, to hitting Oksana Grigorieva last year. – (Reuters)

Dalai Lama to resign despite pressure to stay

DHARAMSALA - The Dalai Lama said yesterday his leadership was as outdated as a monarchy and insisted he would relinquish a four-century-old tradition of power despite opposition from within the Tibetan government-in-exile.

The Dalai Lama announced last week that he would step down as Tibet’s political leader in order to empower an elected prime minister. – (Reuters)
