Hanafin is Fianna Fáil vice-president

Former Fianna Fáil deputy leader Mary Hanafin, who lost her Dún Laoghaire seat in the election, has been selected as vice-president of the party.

She was nominated by party leader Micheál Martin. Ms Hanafin was minister for tourism, sports and culture until she lost her seat. She did not seek a Seanad nomination and indicated she will stand again for the Dáil.

Ryan enters race to lead Green Party

Former minister Eamon Ryan is one of two candidates who have so far put their names forward for leadership of the Green Party. One or two others are expected to come forward before nominations close at the end of the month.

The party said Mr Ryan and Kilkenny councillor Malcolm Noonan had started the process by collecting 50 member nominations each.
