Autumn is the time to promise yourself a good cookery course, and what better than to learn about the cuisines of the planet in the comfort and good cheer of Alix Gardner's kitchen, in her house in Dublin's Waterloo Road. She is offering both Tuesday evening "Around the World" classes, learning dishes such as lamb and cumin casserole, Piedmontese peppers, Chinese beef with tangerine peel and so on, and Intermediate 1 classes, which will concentrate more on basic cooking methods.

The classes run for 10 weeks, and the course costs £225. As the classes take place in Ms Gardner's kitchen, numbers are limited to six per class (telephone 01-668-1553 for a brochure). Ms Gardner also offers a catering service for dinners, buffets, receptions and weddings. Details of menus from the same number.
