A fund set up by members of the IMPACT trade union to help projects in the developing world has just passed the £1 million mark in donations.

It is one of the largest aid efforts of its kind in Ireland and the union has spent most of the money on training programmes for trade unions in Latin America. The fund, to which 3 per cent of union subscriptions are dedicated, was set up in 1981.
