The Irish Farmers' Association has called on the Minister for Agriculture, Mr Walsh, to push grain merchants to raise their prices to farmers immediately.

The chairman of the IFA's grain committee, Mr John O'Mahony, said it was inexplicable that the cost of imported grains was £108 per tonne for feed wheat and £103 for feed barley, while Irish farmers were paid £72 to £77 for wheat and £72 for barley.
