Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Council plans to build a dog toilet on Killiney beach in Co Dublin to raise awareness among dog owners of problems caused by excrement in public places. The toilet, said to be the first in Ireland, will incorporate two poles in an enclosed space covered in sand and gravel. It will open in September.

Officials hope dog owners who exercise dogs on the beach will encourage their pets to use the toilet area.
