Husband denies strangling wife in south Dublin home

The husband of a woman found strangled last year with a vacuum cleaner flex has been charged with her murder.

Brian Kearney (50) of Salvia, Knocknashee, Goatstown, was charged with murdering his 38-year-old wife Siobhan Kearney on February 28th 2006.

The mother-of-one was discovered in her home in Goatstown, Co Dublin.

Mr Kearney was arrested at around 6.50 this morning. He pleaded not guilty when he charged at Dundrum Garda station, Dun Laoghaire District Court heard.

Members of the victim's family, including her parents, were in court this morning.

Counsel for Mr Kearney did not seek bail. He was remanded in custody to Cloverhill Prison and is due to appear again at Cloverhill Courthouse next Wednesday June 6th at 10.30 am.
