Hurling surprises

Edward Carson a hurler? Yes, indeed. Minister James McDaid, at the Trinity College GAA Ball in Maynooth on Wednesday, said it was a pleasant surprise to find Carson was a member of the Trinity College Hurling Club in the later years of the 19th century. "One wonders what might have happened if E. Carson had been picked to hurl for Dublin in the early days of the GAA. Would Irish history have taken an altogether different course?"
