Former Irish priest and human rights activist Pat Rice, who was kidnapped in South America for his investigations into the “disappeared” during Argentina’s “dirty war”, has died.

Born in Fermoy, Co Cork, in September 1945, he studied at St Patrick’s College, Maynooth, and was ordained in 1970. On October 11th, 1976, he and Fatima Cabrera were kidnapped. In December 1976, Mr Rice was deported to Ireland. He spent the rest of his life campaigning for human rights.
