London - The British Health Secretary, Mr Alan Milburn, has launched an urgent inquiry into a report that a hospital ordered staff to throw a stockpile of human organs, including babies' brains, into rubbish bags.

It will look at whether relatives gave their consent for the organs to be stored, the manner in which they were disposed of, and whether the hospital had arrangements for staff to report concerns.

A spokesman for the King's Mill Centre, Sutton-in-Ashfield, said they had suspended the consultant, Geoffrey Hulman, pending the inquiry.
