London - Scientists have found they can change the sex of chickens by altering the temperature of their eggs during incubation, it was revealed yesterday. By cooling or warming the eggs in specific ways, a small proportion of them that ought to produce female chicks can be made to hatch out males, and vice versa.

Prof Mark Ferguson, from the University of Manchester, leading the research, said: "Chickens are a 50 per cent loss industry, because half the time you don't get the ones you want."
