Thousands of households in Dublin are without electricity this afternoon as a result of two major power outages.

The ESB confirmed that power had been cut in Kimmage and the surrounding area after Dublin Corporation workers hit a power line while working outside Superquinn.

A spokeswoman said they hoped to have resume electricity supply to households in the area by 6pm.

Castleknock Village and some of the surrounding area in the north of the city was also without power this afternoon.

But it was unclear what was causing the fault and when it would be rectified.
