House fire in Mullingar claims woman's life

A 54-year-old woman has been killed in a house fire in Mullingar, Co Westmeath.

A 54-year-old woman has been killed in a house fire in Mullingar, Co Westmeath.

She was trapped in the upstairs bedroom of a house on Patrick Street when the fire broke out at around 4.00 a.m.

The woman's male partner suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to Mullingar Hospital for treatment.

The scene is being preserved for technical examination later today.

A post mortem will also be carried out at Mullingar Hospital.
