Hotel chain ends Tibet contract

London - Holiday Inn is to stop running the only luxury hotel in Tibet

London - Holiday Inn is to stop running the only luxury hotel in Tibet. The hotel chain has been targeted by campaigners trying to end Chinese control of the region.

London-based campaigners for self-determination in Tibet launched a boycott against Holiday Inn hotels and its parent company, Bass, in 1993. Holiday Inn's contract to run the hotel in Lhasa, the Tibetan capital, runs out in October, and the company said yesterday it would not renew the deal. - (PA)
