MINISTER FOR Health James Reilly announced last night that Galway University Hospital (incorporating Merlin Park Hospital) together with Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe, and Roscommon General Hospital were to be placed within a single management structure led by a single chief executive.

Bill Maher, currently acting chief executive of St Vincent’s University Hospital in Dublin has been appointed chief executive of the Galway-Roscommon hospital group from January 9th, 2012, on secondment.

Ann Doherty, former head of the National Hospitals Office, has been appointed chief executive of the Mid-Western Hospitals Group. Ms Doherty will transfer from the National Cancer Control Programme in early January.
